# Barleybank Turn Report — Midsummer, Year 1

### Bridging the Lean Gap and Crop Ripening
Midsummer brought prolonged dry spells and high heat that visibly accelerated the ripening of the barley crop, turning the heavy stands from green toward amber. Under Ada’s steady direction, the settlement successfully bridged the final stretch of the pre-harvest lean gap. Strict rationing of remaining consumption barley, combined with garden vegetable harvesting and river fishing details along the banks, kept the community fed without compromising our protected seed reserves. 

Cora established regular ripeness monitoring across the plots, observing uniform ambering heads on both the drained lower beds and the upper slopes.

### Field Safeguards and Workshop Preparations
With intense heat curing wild grasses into dry tinder and sudden convective thunderstorms breaking across the valley, defensive preparations were put into place around the fields:
- **Firebreaks:** Crews cleared bare-dirt firebreaks along the field perimeters and margins to safeguard the standing grain from accidental fires or sparks.
- **Runoff Management:** Bran maintained the drainage lateral channels and gravel embankments, ensuring that torrential thunderstorm downpours discharged rapidly without flooding the ripening stands or silting the beds.
- **Harvest Readiness:** In the village yard, Dain completed the sharpening of sickles, scythes, and harvesting blades. The communal threshing barn was thoroughly swept, cleared, and readied to receive sheaves the moment cutting begins.

### Restitution Jars Secured in the Loft
Dain and Ada led the cart detail to Measure House to collect our thirty certified restitution jars. Utilizing heavily padded carts lined with straw and reeds, the team hauled the entire allotment back to Barleybank with zero breakage recorded. 

Upon arrival, the thirty standardized jars and their fitted lids were hoisted into the dry communal loft and staged securely on raised wooden dunnage platforms, ready to receive cleaned grain once threshing commences.

### Regional Barter at Stonecross Waystation
Along the road northeast, Stonecross operated its renovated roadside waystation under Willa's supervision, providing clean spring water, dry fuel, and secure overnight staging for valley travelers and carters. While passing through, our delegates successfully concluded barter exchanges, trading Barleybank cordage and dried fish for fine sandstone whetstones to support harvest blade maintenance, as well as quarried rotary hand-querns. Other travelers were also present, bartering Reedhaven prototype pack-baskets and Hearthmere utility earthenware.

### Secondary Contracts at Measure House
At Measure House, Pia of Hearthmere confirmed the completion and inspection of the secondary clan contract. Thirty-five calibrated ceramic grain storage jars and fifteen fired roof-ridge tiles have been delivered and staged at the weighing grounds, verified and ready for transfer against Barleybank’s priority tallies once the barley harvest is brought in and threshed.
