1. Measure House Preparation & Audit Delegation (Month 2 of Spring)

• Jora (Exchange Witness):
  • Lead our delegation upriver to Measure House for the formal second-month preparations: copying receipts, verifying tallies, and inspecting seals ahead of next month’s public reweighing.
  • Bring Reedhaven’s complete set of tally sticks and counter-signed receipts—both from last month’s successful grain exchange and our archived records from the preceding year.
  • Work cordially and diligently with Sella during the tally-copying process and with Keeper Oren during seal verification. Affirm Belen’s role as convener.
  • Observe the proceedings with keen attention: note whether receipts between Sella’s duplicate tallies and Oren’s records align cleanly, and observe how the delegates from Barleybank, Hearthmere, and Stonecross conduct themselves. If minor clerical discrepancies arise, support calm, methodical reconciliation based on physical tallies.
  • Engage warmly in informal conversation with the other clan witnesses. Discreetly inquire how spring planting is progressing in Barleybank, clay work and grazing in Hearthmere, and road traffic from Stonecross.

2. Waterfront, Fleet, and Landing Operations

• Fara (Landing Keeper):
  • Maintain efficient flow at the ferry landing. With the landing post firmly reinforced, ensure docks remain uncluttered and mooring lines are secured against mid-spring river rises.
  • Keep a regular dispatch log of all boat movements, arrivals, and cargo manifests between Reedhaven and upriver points.
• Garr (Boat Repairer):
  • Implement a systematic dry-dock rotation for our reed boats. Pull vessels ashore periodically to inspect pitch seals, tighten seam lashings, and thoroughly dry out hulls to prevent rot and waterlogging.
  • Prepare two sound transport boats specifically for any heavy cargo needs that may arise during or after the Month 3 reweighing.

3. Basket Production and Trade Preparation

• Hana (Basket Maker):
  • Continue full production of tight-weave upland grain hampers and transport baskets.
  • Organize finished stock into clearly graded bundles (heavy transport, dry grain storage, fine utility) so our trade inventory is ready for immediate exchange during Month 3.
  • Experiment with incorporating dried rush lining or pitch seams on a small batch of baskets to test whether weather-resistant storage containers might fetch a premium among upland grain growers.

4. Provisions, Rationing, and Marsh Buffering

• Ivo (Provisioner):
  • Conduct a thorough inventory audit of our current grain stores: establish an explicit estimate of total days of baseline grain supply remaining at current consumption rates.
  • Maintain prudent rationing: ensure laborers, weavers, and boat crews have ample nourishment for daily work while preventing waste.
  • Expand seasonal wetland harvesting. Direct non-weaving labor toward seasonal fish weirs, duck netting, and harvesting edible rush roots and young cattail shoots.
  • Focus on preservation: smoke and dry excess fish and roast/dry starchy marsh roots. Storing these durable local calories will establish a strategic buffer, extending our grain stores and shielding Reedhaven against unexpected market interruptions.

5. Landingwarden’s Personal Focus

• Review all historical receipts and duplicate tallies with Jora prior to the delegation’s departure for Measure House, ensuring Reedhaven’s paperwork is flawless.
• Work with Ivo to inspect grain storehouses for pest control and moisture management.
• Greet returning river crews and ferry travelers to maintain an accurate sense of regional mood, river navigation conditions, and inter-clan relations.
